Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) designed to increase the chances of conception by enhancing the natural fertilization process. The treatment involves using ovulation-inducing medications to stimulate the ovaries, encouraging the development of multiple mature eggs. Throughout the cycle, transvaginal ultrasounds and blood hormone tests are used to monitor follicle growth and egg maturation.
When the eggs are ready, an injection is administered to trigger ovulation. A processed and highly concentrated sperm sample is then placed directly into the uterine cavity, bypassing the cervix and increasing the likelihood of successful fertilization.
Types of Artificial Insemination
The total cost of intrauterine insemination typically ranges from NT$20,000 to NT$50,000, depending on individual needs and the medications required. Fees generally include:
IUI provides a 5–10% higher pregnancy rate compared to unassisted conception in natural cycles. However, success varies depending on age, fertility diagnosis, and treatment adherence.
For men:
Abstain from ejaculation for 3–5 days before semen collection to optimize sperm quality.
For women:
Maintain a healthy diet and weight
Take prenatal vitamins and folic acid (800 mcg daily)
Get regular sunlight exposure to boost vitamin D
