Attention, Couples Facing Infertility: Embryo Safety Comes First

Huayu Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic addresses infertility couples’ top concerns—embryo health and correct implantation—by implementing a high-standard embryo monitoring system to ensure zero mistakes. Director Dr. Ming-Yi Hsu collaborated with a former classmate from NTU Electrical Engineering to introduce the EU-certified RI Witness system, tracking every step from egg retrieval, fertilization, culture, freezing, to transfer with chips to avoid human error. Deputy Director Dr. Cheng-Wei Wang introduced the Timelapse embryo monitoring system, which records embryo development 24/7 without removing them from the incubator, minimizing disturbance and allowing couples to witness growth. Huayu integrates skilled physicians, experienced embryologists, and advanced labs, optimizing workflow and minimizing transport distances to maintain stable conditions and improve pregnancy success rates.

Causes of Infertility: A Deep Dive into Fallopian Tube Issues

Hydrosalpinx occurs when the end of the fallopian tube becomes blocked, causing fluid buildup and swelling, often due to pelvic infection, inflammation, or adhesions. It is a significant cause of female infertility, with high-risk groups including women with endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease, previous uterine infections, chlamydia, or inflammation from IUD use. Symptoms are usually absent, though prolonged bleeding after menstruation may occur. Diagnosis typically begins with hysterosalpingography (HSG) and may be confirmed via laparoscopy. Hydrosalpinx prevents sperm and egg from meeting and can negatively impact embryo implantation, reducing both natural and IVF success rates. Surgical removal or blockage of the affected tube before IVF is recommended to improve pregnancy chances.

Types of Endometriosis That Are Difficult to Detect Through Routine Examinations

Endometriosis is a common condition among women of reproductive age, where endometrial cells grow outside the uterine cavity, causing chronic inflammation. Common forms include ovarian endometriomas (“chocolate cysts”) and adenomyosis. Severe menstrual pain, diarrhea during periods, or infertility are high-risk indicators. Some cases, such as lesions on the peritoneum, are not visible via ultrasound or imaging and can only be confirmed through surgery, which may lead to differing medical opinions. Women with menstrual pain who wish to conceive should seek early evaluation, as most cases can be improved with medication and timely treatment can prevent infertility caused by pelvic adhesions or blocked fallopian tubes.

PRP may help with premature ovarian failure.

What is PRP? Autologous PRP is platelet-rich plasma with a high concentration of platelets , extracted from the patient’s own blood and produced using centrifugation. Platelets not only play an important role in hemostasis but also serve as a reservoir of numerous growth factors. When injected into damaged tissues or areas, it can aid in repair […]
