Process of Embryo Freezing
The frozen embryo process has five steps:
1️⃣ Ovarian stimulation (Cycle Day 1–3): Use injectable or oral medications to stimulate ovulation, drink over 2000ml of water daily, and follow the doctor’s instructions.
2️⃣ Monitoring follicle maturity (Cycle Day 6–12, about 2–3 visits): Blood tests and ultrasounds monitor hormone levels and follicle size to determine the optimal egg retrieval day.
3️⃣ Egg retrieval (Cycle Day 12–15): Administer the trigger shot exactly 34–36 hours before retrieval (possibly at midnight). Performed under sedation; patients go home after 1–2 hours. The male partner provides a semen sample the same day (2–5 days abstinence).
4️⃣ In vitro fertilization (IVF): Mature eggs are combined with prepared sperm in a dish; ICSI may be used if sperm quality is poor.
5️⃣ Embryo culture and freezing: Fertilized eggs that reach the 2–8 cell stage are called embryos; by day 5–7 they are blastocysts and frozen. Under Taiwan’s Artificial Reproduction Act, embryos may be stored for up to 10 years, but must be discarded in cases of annulment, divorce, or death of either spouse.
Process of Egg Freezing
The egg freezing process has three main steps:
1️⃣ Ovarian Stimulation (Cycle Day 1–3): Begin injectable or oral medications to stimulate ovulation. Follow the doctor’s instructions and drink over 2000ml of water daily. Blood tests and ultrasounds may be arranged.
2️⃣ Monitoring Follicle Maturity (Cycle Day 6–12, about 3 visits): Blood hormone levels and ultrasound are used to determine the optimal egg retrieval day. Avoid strenuous exercise after about one week to prevent ovarian torsion.
3️⃣ Egg Retrieval (Cycle Day 12–15): Administer the trigger shot exactly 34–36 hours before retrieval (possibly at midnight). Under general anesthesia and ultrasound guidance, eggs are retrieved. Observation lasts 1–2 hours before discharge. The next period usually comes about a week later.
Supplements such as DHEA & Q10 are recommended to improve egg quality/quantity. PRP therapy and CGT genetic testing are also available.
