Having a period doesn’t necessarily mean you are ovulating.
With more women delaying marriage and childbirth, both egg quantity and quality are crucial for pregnancy. Egg count decreases from birth and does not increase; having a menstrual cycle does not guarantee ovulation. A simple blood test (AMH) can measure ovarian reserve and help plan ahead, such as freezing eggs to preserve quality while young. Freezing does not harm egg quality—age is the key factor. Besides personal use, eggs can be donated to help others. Dr. Hsu Ming-Yi emphasizes that egg freezing is like insurance, not a guarantee of having children; the older you are, the more eggs are needed. In Taiwan, egg donation is legal, and donors can receive compensation, restoring fertility after egg replacement.
